These are actual cases from the office of Dr. Charles Kaner:  Under Cosmetic Procedures, there are two cases of: ”Too Much Gum and four of Too Little Gum.”  There are also cases of  Periodontal Regenerationaround teeth, "Bone Regeneration of jaw ridges and Implant Placement.” Solutions to inadequate bone for implant placement under the maxillary sinus include Special Short Implants, Bypassing the Sinus, and Sinus Grafting.

Cosmetic Procedures:  Too much gum.
Esthetic Crown Lengthening

During this procedure, excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth.  This can be performed to one or more teeth to expose a natural broad pleasing smile.  Your dentist or periodontist may also recommend crown lengthening to allow for the fabrication of a restoration or cosmetic dental prosthesis.  Your tooth may be decayed, broken below the gum line, or have insufficient tooth structure to make a restoration such as a crown or bridge.  Crown lengthening adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so that it can be restored.

Case 2:

In addition to removing excess gum, a frenectomy was performed which allowed the teeth to move closer together.

Periodontal Regeneration Using a Guided Tissue Regeneration Membrane

The ultimate aim of periodontal therapy is the regeneration of the attachment apparatus (cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone), around a previously bacteria-contaminated root surface.  Reconstructing the periodontium can add longevity to the dentition.  Bone grafting with autogenous, demineralized  freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA), synthetic bone or xenograft (cow bone) and barrier membranes for guided tissue regeneration, represent great strides in regeneration therapy.

Ridge Augmentation for Dental Implants.

Ridge augmentation techniques to reconstruct the jaw bone deformities caused by the infection process of hopeless teeth enable implants to be placed.

Case 1:

Before

Extraction of hopeless teeth plus bone graft

Implant and crowns replacing teeth
Case 2:

The hopeless right central incisor caused destruction of the maxillary ridge which was repaired with a bone graft and followed with the insertion of implants and crowns.
